Meet Ghanaian football icon, Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio

Cecil Jones Attuquayefio (18 October 1944 – 12 May 2015) was a Ghanaian football player and coach. A member of the Ga ethnic group.

Cecil Jones Attuquayefio was a legendary Ghanaian football coach who made significant contributions to both Hearts of Oak and Ghana football as a whole. Here are some of his notable achievements and contributions

Triple Triumph with Hearts of Oak: Attuquayefio achieved unparalleled success with Hearts of Oak during his time as head coach from 1997 to 2001. He led the team to three consecutive Ghana Premier League titles from 1997 to 1999, a feat that earned them the nickname "The Trilogy." This was the first time in the club's history that they had won three league titles consecutively.

CAF Champions League Glory: Attuquayefio's biggest accomplishment with Hearts of Oak came in 2000 when he guided them to win the CAF Champions League. It was the first time a Ghanaian club had won the prestigious continental competition. Hearts of Oak defeated Tunisian side Espérance in the final, with Attuquayefio's tactical brilliance being instrumental in their success.



Development of Young Players: Attuquayefio was known for his ability to identify and develop young talent. During his time with Hearts of Oak, he nurtured several young players who went on to have successful careers, both domestically and internationally.
