Meet Kumasi Akwamuhene / Asafohene

The man seated at the right is called Nana Asafo Boakye -a chief (Kumasi Akwamuhene/Asafohene),
Born: 1832
Died: 1925

Son of Asantehene (Ashanti King) Nana Kwaku Dua Panin.

He married Princess Akua Afriyie (sister to Nana Kofi Kakari & Nana Mensah Bonsu (both Ashanti Kings) and a daughter of Asantehemaa (Queen of Ashanti) Nana Afua Kobi.

In 1896 Nana Asafo Baokye was among the Ashantis captured by the British alongside their King Nana Prempeh I a.k.a Nana Kwaku Dua III Asamu.

Nana Asafo Baokye vowed that he’ll survive the exile and he did – in Elmina, Gold Coast (Ghana), Freetown-Sierra Leone, Mahe-Seychelles and returned to Kumasi, Gold Coast (Ghana) in 1924.
