Tema residents plan protest over children's library land sale to Chinese developers, seek investor support

Concerned residents in the Tema Metropolis have voiced their grievances over the sale of the Tema Children's library land, a facility that has served numerous children in Tema and Ashaiman, to Chinese developers for the construction of a casino.

Expressing their concerns on social media, some residents have organized a protest scheduled for October 20, 2023, to halt the sale to the Chinese by the TDC.

A social media user named Gideon K. Tetteh addressed the situation, stating, "We distributed letters to various offices today, including TMA, Tema West, and the Tema Regional Police Headquarters. We have urged Tema West not to grant the permit, even if it's for minor construction. The Tema Regional Police Commander has received our letter, informing them of the upcoming demonstration on October 20, 2023. The dress code is red and black. We will assemble at Chemu Park, Community 7, at 9 AM".

He went on to mention that they will be petitioning the Regional Minister, Speaker of Parliament, Chief of Staff, all MPs in Tema, and relevant authorities to revoke the 55-year lease granted to W.B. Impex Limited. Their single demand is the immediate annulment of the lease to the Chinese developers.

Additionally, he emphasized that the residents of Tema are committed to developing the library for the benefit of children and the community. He called for support from investors and like-minded individuals to contribute to the rehabilitation of the library, including the provision of facilities such as a green park, swimming pool, mini soccer pitch, volleyball court, mini-golf, an arcade center, indoor sports area, among others.
