Breaking News: Captain Smart Arrested By BNI Operatives.

Three hours later, operatives from the NIB Akosua Otchere arrested Captain Smart. Ago

Blessed Godsbrain Smart, better known by his stage name Captain Smart, was taken into custody by agents working for the National Intelligence Bureau. Smart is the host of the morning show on Onua TV/FM, which is a subsidiary of Media General (NIB).

Late on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, the media personality was brought in for questioning.

It is not clear what led to his arrest in the first place.

It is important to keep in mind, however, that the broadcaster has been in the news recently due to comments he made in which he accused the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, of being involved in illegal mining activities.

Afterwards, the Ministry of Information issued a statement in which it refuted the claims and stated that the government was in the process of filing a complaint with the National Media Commission (NMC) and might investigate the possibility of seeking legal redress.

The government stated last week that allegations that President Akufo-Addo is involved in illegal mining could lead to a lawsuit being filed against Captain Smart.

In a statement released by the government, it was stated that the claims made by Mr. Smart, also known as Captain Smart, in a video that was made public will be referred to the National Media Commission.

According to the statement, "It is however essential to note that the aforementioned action is without prejudice to the government's right to seek legal action against Mr. Smart, Onua TV and Media General."

The government has accused Mr. Smart of practicing journalism in a manner that is "unethical and irresponsible." They have also stated that "the video is intended to court disaffection for government and undermine efforts to fight illegal mining in the country."

"clothed under the pretext of journalistic discretion and free expression," the government expressed its concern about the dissemination of disinformation and false information.

In addition, it came to the conclusion that the allegations lacked merit and "casts doubt on the President's character and integrity, as well as the credibility and dedication of his fight against illegal and irresponsible mining."

The government continues to maintain that its commitment to combating illegal mining is "unwavering," despite the fact that it has been accused of giving the fight against illegal mining lip service.
