Asamoah Gyan was found guilty of malicious prosecution and fined GHc1 million by the Accra High Court.

Accra High Court hits Asamoah Gyan with GHc1 million fine
Journalist Anthony Sarfo filed a lawsuit against the former captain of Ghana, requesting GHc1 million in damages.

Starr FM reported that Gyan took Sarfo and four other people to court, accusing them of extortion over a story that was published about a supposed rape between the retired football player and Sarah Kwblah.

The report also reveals that, despite their arrest, the five accused were later freed upon being found not guilty.

Sarfo then went on to sue Gyan and his manager, Samuel Anim Addo, in a countersuit alleging malicious prosecution.

The journalist was awarded the GHc1 million in compensation that she had demanded, after an Accra High Court ruling.

According to Starr FM, on Friday, December 8, 2023, presiding judge Ernest Owusu Dapaa declared that Gyan and his manager had falsely accused the plaintiff.

According to the court, Gyan was negotiating a transfer to a Chinese club at the time, so the report to the police was allegedly made more to preserve Gyan's reputation.

The judge added that Sarfo had unequivocally demonstrated that he had never demanded money from Gyan.

According to the report, the plaintiff was granted GHc900,000 in damages by the judge, along with an additional GHc111,000 for each month he missed from his job, which was paying him GHc1,000 at the time. Gyan and his manager were also awarded GHc60,000 in damages.

This occurs after Gyan's marriage was dissolved and a judge ordered him to give some of his assets to his ex-wife Gifty.

The former Sunderland striker was mandated by the court to give his ex-wife GHc25,000 per month for the maintenance and well-being of their kids.

The amount above does not include the costs of raising children, such as school fees, medical bills, dental care, travel tickets, and other expenses.

Gyan’s house in the UK and another four-bedroom apartment in Ghana have also been awarded to his ex-wife by the court as compensation.

As part of the court settlement, Gifty was also awarded a BMW car and a gas station owned by the retired football player at Prampram.
