The billionaire investor’s impending visit to Ghana won’t come as a surprise, according to Dickson Adomako Kissi, the Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, given the significance of lithium to his business’s operations.

“I am happy that something from Ghana will go to space because lithium is one of the things that help in space exploration” . Talking about batteries and all. And from the look of things, we might soon receive a visit from Elon Musk.

“Ghana is now closer to California due to lithium,” he stated while appearing as a guest on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show.

He asked the government to take steps to add value locally to the raw materials mined and to guarantee ties with lithium-related societies.

An agreement for the mining of Ghanaian lithium has been signed by the government of Ghana and Barari DV Limited.

Details of the agreement, however, have drawn criticism from the public regarding Ghana’s potential gains.

Critics, such as the IEA, claim that the agreement that grants Ghana a 10% royalty is a shortchange for the nation’s development. On the other hand, the government claims that this agreement is the best that Ghana has ever made for the exploitation of its natural resources.
