When the Ghanaian men's national team left for the Ivory Coast in 2023 to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), they made sure to appear stylish.
On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, the Black Stars left their Kumasi camp to compete in the event.
The players were adorably dressed in matching shorts and Kaftan tops in pictures posted on the team's social media accounts.
Because Chris Hughton's team is partnered in Group B, they will play Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde in the AFCON group stage.
However, on Sunday, January 14, the Black Stars will take on Cape Verde in a challenging test to begin their campaign in the Ivory Coast.
Prior to their departure for the AFCON, President Nana Akufo-Addo had dinner with the team on Tuesday.
Akufo-Addo asked the Black Stars to represent Ghana with pride at the competition, assuring them of the support of all Ghanaians.
"Be extremely aware that Ghanaians are behind you. Give it your all and make us proud. The President stated that all the required arrangements have been made by the Government with the full assistance of the GFA to make this happen.
Nonetheless, Ghana will enter the competition reeling after a dismal run of play in which they have lost both of their previous league games.
In a pre-AFCON friendly against Namibia on Monday at Baba Yara Stadium, the Black Stars were also held to a depressing goalless stalemate.
The West Africans, who have been without a trophy for 42 years, have an uphill battle in the Ivory Coast.
