POLITICS:AN ANGOLANS CAME OUT IN NUMBERS TO EXERCISE THEIR FRANCHISE.

Angolans started casting their ballots on Wednesday in what is expected to be the most competitive vote in its democratic history, with the side of incumbent president Joao Lourenco teaming up against charismatic opposition leader Adalberto Costa Junior.

A struggling economy, high cost of living, soaring poverty compounded by the Covid19 pandemic, drought in
the southern part of the country and the death of a former energetic president all looming.
The ruling people's movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA)party which has been in power for nearly five years in oil dominance country is facing the serious challenges since the country first multiparty system took place in 1992."It's been 20 years now but we are still poor as a country "a 27 year old electrician said, "so I'm going to vote for UNITA",people really need change ,the government doesn't provide the basic needs of the citizens.

Eight political parties are running but the main focus lies on MPLA and the long-standing rival and Ex-rebel movement the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA).
Opinion polls suggest that support for MPLA who won 61 percent (%) for 2017 general elections will dwindle while the UNITA which has entered electoral pact with two other parties will gain. But UNITA's strength might not be enough to unseat Lourenco who is expected to secure a second five year mandate.
