Bob Marley's grandson Jo Mersa Marley dies at age 31!

Joseph Marley, the second grandchild of reggae artist Bob Marley and the eldest son of eight-time Grammy winner Stephen Marley, passed away at the age of 31. Journalist Abka Fitz-Henley, based in Kingston, Jamaica, was the first to break the news that the recording artist and DJ known professionally as Jo Mersa was discovered unconscious in a car on Tuesday, Dec. 27. Later, the information was confirmed to Rolling Stone by a Jo Mersa spokesperson. The artist passed away from an asthma attack, according to South Florida radio station WZPP, although the exact cause of death has not been made public.

On March 12, 1991, in Kingston, Joseph Marley was born. The third-generation Marley grew up in a musical family and had his stage debut at the age of 4 with his father, his uncle Ziggy, and his aunts Cedella and Sharon during one of the group's performances finales. When he was 11 years old, his family relocated to Florida, where he studied studio engineering and saw his father and uncle Damian Marley at work in Stephen's Lion's Den studio. In 2010, Joseph released "My Girl," a duet with his older cousin Daniel Bambaata Marley, on the Marley family's own record company Ghetto Youths International, with his father serving as producer.

His passing was confirmed to Rolling Stone on Tuesday by a spokesman.

Journalist Abka Fitz-Henley originally tweeted about Jo Mersa's passing; according to WZPP Radio, the musician was "discovered in his vehicle." His reason of death hasn't been made public yet.
Following Jo Mersa's passing, Jamaica's Prime Minister Andrew Holness also paid tribute to him.
