Lee Addy is a professional Ghanaian footballer. He played for the Ghana national team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and plays as a defender.
He was born in Accra Ghana. His career in football began with Nania F.C.in 2007 and in 2008, started playing for the Bechem Chelsea playing in the Ghana Premier League.
Lee Addy moved to Europe to sign a contract for Serbian SuperLiga club Red Star Belgrade at the end pf the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He became a regular center-back at both his club and the Ghana national team.
He completed a three-year deal with the Chinese Super League side Dalian Aerbin and played the number 13. A fee of $2.2 million was paid to move from Serbian club Red Star Belgrade
Lee Addy was loaned to to Dinamo Zagreb on 10th February 2013, on a one year deal and signed in January 2014. This deal ended in 2015. Addy signed a one-year contract with FK ?ukari?ki on 31 August 2015.
He signed a deal with Free State Stars in South Africa and terminated the contract in December 2019.
Lee Addy made his debut for the Ghanaian national team on 30th September 2009. He was part of a domestic-based team that played a friendly against Argentina. He also played at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations having played four matches including the lost final against Egypt.
During the 2010 FIFA World Cup he was a substitute in a 1–0 win over Serbia. He also played in the 1–1 draw against Australia in the group stage and was a substitute in the Round of 16 2–1 victory over the United States. He didn't play in the quarter-finals against Uruguay due to an accumulation of yellow cards, where Ghana was eliminated in a penalty shoot-out.
Lee Addy's age became a huge controversy before the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He was registered with the date of birth as 26 September 1985 while, registered by Ghana's World Cup squad as born on 7 July 1990. The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet was in contact with FIFA regarding the matter.
A passport control was done and there was no suspicion found. Lee Addy had no previous passport control done in the past and therefore, there was no material to compare to.
