Captain Smart released after arrest on Wednesday

Captain Smart, anchor of the morning show on Onua FM, was arrested earlier in the day and was later released by police on Wednesday night.

He had been apprehended by agents from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

The controversial broadcaster had been cited by the government prior to the arrest for making unfounded assertions that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is actively engaged in illicit mining.

For the remarks, Mr. Smart was reported to the National Media Commission.

The government added that a lawsuit over the allegations might be brought against Mr. Smart and his employer, Media General.
