13th African Games: The State Of University Of Ghana Facilities

When the 13th African Games are held in Ghana in March 2024, the country will serve as the epicentre of activity on the African continent.

The preparations are in full swing, and two notable locations have been chosen to host the games. There are only eight months left till the big event takes place.

The principal hosting location for the games will be the University of Ghana, which is widely regarded as the best tertiary institution in the country. It will provide specialised spaces for lodging, dining, and displaying the extraordinary talents of the athletes competing. In addition to this, an additional large arena in Borteyman will be used throughout the sporting extravaganza for a variety of events and competitions.

As the countdown continues, the event organisers, including the Ministry for Youth and Sports and the Local Organising Committee, are expressing their confidence that both of these stadiums will be fully equipped to exhibit the tournament in all of its splendour.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, the Sports Minister and Deputy, and the LOC Chairman recently joined Citi Sports on a tour of the campus during which they were escorted by Citi Sports. The purpose of the trip was to demonstrate the significant progress that has been accomplished by the hardworking engineers who are labouring around the clock to build cutting-edge arenas and domes for the games.

This enlightening journey started off at the University of Ghana rugby pitch as its first destination.

The work that had been completed up to this point, which included the planting of grass, changing rooms, a media zone for journalists, and a VIP space, was presented to the stakeholders.

Following our time at the rugby pitch, we made our way to the Dome Site, which is found in the Diaspora region of the University of Ghana campus.

The Dome site features two tents, each with a capacity of 500 seats, that will function as the clinic, the cafeteria, and the kitchen. The clinic will have 10 beds, and the athletes will be served their daily meals in the kitchen.

We started our adventure at the site of the Dome and made our way to one of the hostels that was undergoing active renovations.

The 13th African Games will take place in Ghana, and the organisers have already begun the process of renovating 2,900 rooms in preparation for the arrival of an estimated 5,800 athletes, coaches, and staff members.

The works of renovation include the installation of new water heaters and air conditioners, the repair of doors and restrooms, as well as the purchase and installation of new wardrobes, beds, and mattresses.

After leaving the dorms, our next visit was the University of Ghana Sports Complex. When we arrived, the first area that we explored was the training zone, which had a miniature version of the primary stadium.

Engineers guarantee that the grass will be cut to the appropriate length and that tartan tracks will be laid down in accordance with the requirements of international standards.

After that, we made our way to the primary stadium and entered through the primary entrance. It is anticipated that the parking lot would have 1,500 spaces for cars and that it will be adorned with trees.

We entered the stadium through the main door, and while inside, the pitch was being evaluated and comments were being made.

Engineers, the Sports Ministry, and the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the 13th African Games are confident that Ghana is on pace to fulfil the deadline, and that the facilities will be completed months before the start of the competition. There are eight months left until the event.
