$2.5 million for the celebration of Green Ghana Day

Akufo-Addo
Benito Owusu-Bio, the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, disclosed that the government has approved GH2.5 million for the 2023 Green Ghana tree planting.

This was mentioned by the Deputy Minister during a press conference at the ministry regarding the government's preparations for the Green Ghana Day celebration in 2023.

According to Mr. Owuau-Bio, the Forestry Commission will provide three million seedlings through its district offices and internal nursery.

The Commission's alternative livelihood program will distribute an additional three million seedlings.

Additionally, he mentioned that the Plantation Fund Board, which was established by the government through the Forestry Commission, will aid in the development of private plantations.

"It will also provide 500,000 seedlings, in addition to 1 million seedlings from committed benefactors. All of these will total up to 7,500,000 of the 10,000,000," he stated.

He continued, "Our approved budget for Green Ghana this year is currently GH2.5 million." This is insufficient, but we cannot say that we will not celebrate the holiday this year. Therefore, there is a need to begin fundraising, which we have been doing since last year, and we are hopeful that our partners will help make this possible."

Green Ghana Day will be celebrated on Friday, June 9, 2023, with the theme "Our Forest, Our Health."

During this year's commemoration, the government intends to plant 10 million trees.
