Following a failed effort, police in Oyo state have announced the arrest of a kidnapping kingpin and 28 more suspects for various criminal offenses.

A letter requesting N15 million in ransom was allegedly issued by the alleged kidnapper (name withheld).

The victim, who resides at 7up Road, Oluyole area, Ibadan, received a call on his mobile phone from an unidentified person who identified himself as the kingpin of a dreaded kidnapping syndicate, the public relations officer, Adewale Osifeso, revealed to newsmen during the parade of the suspect at the Oyo Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan.

According to the police complaint, the suspect threatened to kidnap him and his family, saying they had preparations in place to do so and that they had complete knowledge of their target's daily activities, including employment and family.

According to the statement, "In an effort to demonstrate their seriousness, the suspect(s) further proceeded by sending images (pictures) of the victim's living room and office to prove that he has reliable information about him. They then demanded a ransom of 15,000,000 Naira from their target, sternly warning him about the dangerous repercussions of involving the Police.

The horrified victim eventually reported the incident to the police commissioner for Oyo State Command, who quickly ordered the Command Monitoring Unit to find the criminal kingpin and anybody else involved in the crime.

A person named ABDULAZEEZ FAISAL was apprehended in the GWAGWALADA region of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as a result of quiet investigations that the Command's Monitoring Unit launched after receiving this direction.

During questioning, he freely admitted to the crime and provided helpful information that resulted in the capture of another suspect. The police have also apprehended 28 additional individuals for a variety of crimes, including car and motorbike theft, armed robbery, and murder.

One of the seven suspects detained for dispossessing riders of their motorcycles across the entire state of Oyo was a family of three consisting of a couple and a blood relative.

One of the motorcyclists was allegedly killed by the suspects in the Odo Oba neighborhood of the Ibadan South East local government area.

According to the report, on March 12, 2023, at around 05:30 a.m., members of a notorious armed robbery gang that specialize in kidnapping and robbing commercial motorcycle riders were intercepting a victim as he went about his commercial motorcycle business.

The motorcycle rider was severely hurt by the armed thieves, who also stole his TVS motorcycle and fled the scene while striking him with a cutlass.

The victim was eventually found in a pool of blood and taken to the hospital, but the severity of the thieves' injuries caused him to pass away before getting there.

The incident was reported to IDI-ARO Division in Ibadan, and while efforts were made to apprehend the thugs, on March 14, 2023, at around 6:00 a.m., a second motorcyclist was attacked by the same group of armed robbers in a different remote location, and they forced him to surrender one Bajaj motorcycle at gunpoint.

Three of the armed robbers were later detained as a result of their preliminary inquiry after the occurrence was equally reported to the same Division.
