A 14-year-old refuse dealer falls into a pit and dies.

A 14-year-old boy has perished after falling into a pit near Kumasi, Ashanti Region, at the Oti Landfill Site.

On April 30, 2023, the deceased, Joseph Annan Junior, reportedly went in search of scraps with a group of other adolescents.

Apparently, he fell into the garbage mound after stepping into the deep hole by accident.

The other adolescents were able to extract him from the hole and transport him to the hospital for treatment.

"The deceased tumbled into a pit while searching for scrap metal. According to a police report, he was rescued and rushed to Kumasi South Hospital for medical treatment, but was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

Joseph Annan, the deceased's father, and Foster Yeboah, the Deputy Manager of the Oti Landfill Site, both reported the incident to the police.

According to the statement, the police visited the hospital and "other than old wounds on both legs, no external injuries were discovered."

The cadaver has been placed in the mortuary of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, pending an autopsy.
