Two doctors — one from Hyderabad and another from New York — are on the verge of making kidney treatment in India not only inexpensive but also accessible to patients even living in remote areas. The new treatment, Allo-Hemodialysis ( AlloHD ), which has already completed animal trials, will soon see a human — also referred to as ‘buddy’ — replace the dialysis machine and temporarily ‘donate’ his/her kidney to the patient to remove waste and excess fluid from the latter's blood.
So, instead of physically donating the kidney, the blood will be diverted to the 'buddy' for cleaning. The buddy's kidney, experts claim, will see no impact.
