Bernard Aboakoia Mensah has been nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to serve as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi East in the Oti Region.
In addition, Albert Sefa Boampong was appointed District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North in the Ashanti Region by the President.
This nominations comply with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) (amended).
It is contained in a statement issued and signed by Dan Botwe, the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development.
As part of the procedure to secure the appointment, the nominated individuals would be confirmed by their respective assemblies upon receipt of the nominations.
The statement indicated that the nominees must participate in the final phase of the confirmation process.
"In light of the foregoing, you are kindly requested to coordinate with the Regional Electoral Commission in order to complete the confirmation process for the proposed chief executive," the document stated.
The nomination of Mr. Mensah for the Karachi East constituency follows the untimely passing of MCE Francis Kofi Okesu in September 2022.
Consequently, the municipality has been without an MCE for approximately eight months.
David Akwasi Asare Boakye, the District Chief Executive of the Offinso North Assembly, died five months prior to Mr. Boampong's nomination.
On November 7, 2022, he perished at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
