Ato Forson, Kwaku Kwarteng, and 7 Other MPs Run To IMF, World Bank Immediately

The finance committee chairman Kwaku Kwarteng will lead a team of nine Ghanaian lawmakers to the Washington, D.C., IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in 2023. The delegation includes experts in finance, legislation, and oversight including Okaikoi Yaw Boamah, Cassiel Ato Forson, Dr. Emmanuel Marfo, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, Davis Ansah Opoku, Elvis Morris Donkoh, and Betty Nana Efua Krosbi Mensah.

The main objective of the team is to make sure that Ghana receives the IMF Board's blessing for a $3 billion credit. The administration is restructuring its external debt and has already secured a staff-level deal. To ensure that the government's initiatives are appropriately funded and agreements are kept, the MPs will ask bilateral and multilateral lenders for guarantees.

Because Parliament is in charge of budget monitoring and legislation, the presence of the MPs in the meetings is important. Their input is essential in ensuring that Ghana's economic policies are in line with the government's development agenda. Participation by the delegation will improve Ghana's connections with the IMF and the World Bank and present chances for the country to gain knowledge from other nations' experiences.

Dr. Emmanuel Marfo stressed the significance of Parliament's role in ensuring that the government's initiatives are adequately supported in an interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio. He promised that the delegation will see to it that whatever promises the government makes were kept and carried through.

The discussions will also be attended by key officials from the Bank of Ghana and the finance ministries, including financial minister Ken Ofori-Atta. Their participation will give Ghana's delegation more clout and give them the opportunity to converse with representatives of other nations and financial organizations.

Ghana must take advantage of the delegation's participation at the 2023 IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings to forge stronger economic ties and win money for its development plan. Their participation will guarantee that Ghana's priorities receive sufficient funding and that pledges are kept.
