Celebrating Farouk Aliu Mahama's 42nd Birthday Heir to his illustrious father's legacy

When great men leave indelible imprints in the sand, it can be difficult for their offspring to follow in their footsteps, much less surpass their extraordinary accomplishments. Typically, this is due to the fact that the first generation establishes such a high standard that it becomes difficult to replicate.

Such is the situation with the Alius, the late Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, and his son, the Honorable Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama. In contrast to many situations in which sons of legends struggle to emulate their parents, Farouk Aliu Mahama's accomplishments make his father satisfied.

Farouk Aliu Mahama is 42 years old today (April 27, 2022) and has already made significant academic and political progress, carrying on the legacy of his esteemed father and positively impacting the lives of his people in the North and beyond. Despite losing his influential father at age 29, he could have been led astray by circumstances and other factors. As his remarkable profile demonstrates, he remained focused and persevered to become a qualified academic, a shrewd politician, and a philanthropist.

Occupational life

Farouk Aliu Mahama is a Certified International Supply Chain Professional and has used his expertise in this field to provide Ghana Cocoa Board with invaluable assistance.

He rose through the ranks at the Ghana Cocoa Board to become the Procurement Manager. He is now a Member of Parliament for Yendi and the Board Chairman of the Ghana Integrated Iron And Steel Development Corporation (GIISEC).

Early years and family history

Hon. Umar Farouk Aliu Mahama was born on April 27, 1981, into the prominent political family of H.E. Alhaji Aliu Mahama and H.E. Hajia Ramatu Mahama, the late former Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana from 2001 to 2009.

His father, a renowned politician and businessman from the north, created history as Ghana's first Muslim Vice-President.

His paternal grandfather, Zongo Naa Mahama, was the Zongo Chief of Yendi, the traditional capital of Dagbon, and his maternal grandfather, Alhaji Imoro Egala, served as Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister in the First Republic(1960-1961), Education Minister, and then Trade and Industries Minister under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. In addition, he was the first African chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board and the founder of the People's National Party, the parent party of the People's National Convention (PNC).

Education

Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama began his elementary education at Tamale's Presby Experimental School before enrolling in the Achimota institutions. After completing his secondary education at Prempeh College in Kumasi, he attended Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) to obtain his Bachelor of Science in Marketing.

Farouk Aliu Mahama possesses a Master of Science in Supply Chain Management from Coventry University in England, United Kingdom, and is a Certified International Supply Chain Professional from the International Purchasing and Supply Chain Management Institute-USA.

Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama is a prominent member of the board of directors for the Aliu Mahama Foundation. Upon obtaining an invitation to the Oxford University Africa Conference in 2019, he is also the first young politician from Northern Ghana to address students at the prestigious Oxford University.

On the occasion of Black History Month, Westminster Parliament (British Parliament) extended him a special invitation to speak.Among others, he has participated in these conferences.

Personal Life

Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama has three (3) sons, Maltiti Aliu Mahama Jr, Nurudeen Mahama and Abdul Nasir with his wife Ayisha Mahama. Farouk Aliu Mahama, a native of Yendi, is conversant in Dagbani, Hausa, Twi, and Ga. He has openly stated that football and philanthropy are his interests.

Farouk as Member of Parliament

As part of his revolutionary leadership, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama founded the Partnership for Poverty Reduction, a non-governmental organization that focuses on social interventions in areas such as agriculture to bolster local economies, health, women and youth empowerment, etc.

Farouk Aliu Mahama, the Member of Parliament for the Yendi Constituency, aims to use his position to benefit the residents of Yendi. He is engaged in a number of initiatives designed to transform and improve the lives of the decent people of Yendi.

He has spearheaded a significant shift in Yendi's politics by ushering in a period of genuine transformation. He is presently serving as Chairman of the Parliamentary Muslim Caucus and as a member of the following select Committees in Parliament House:

Farouk has accomplished so much by age 42, but he can still accomplish more.
