Gunmen suspected of being herdsmen and their collaborators have laid siege to over ten remote agrarian communities in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, kidnapped eight people from the Igolo community last week, and compelled relatives to pay ransom for the release of those held captive.

Residents have escaped the communities of Igolo and Abumwenre 2 because of the fear-inducing activities of the gunmen, who ambush farmers on the farm road.

The audacious assailants who twice invaded the Ughohue community last week, killing one woman and wounding another, are now moving from house to house and community to community, shooting, maiming, and robbing defenseless villagers.
