Customers are warned by ECG to pay their bills within fourteen days or risk disconnection.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has warned its customers that failure to pay their current invoices within fourteen days will result in disconnection.

Michael Buabin, acting Volta Regional General Manager, disclosed this at a press briefing following the company's one-month national revenue mobilization exercise, which resulted in the recovery of over 40 million Ghana Cedis.

As stated in PURC Regulation LI 2413, according to Mr. Buabin, customers who fail to pay their debts within the 14-day grace period will be disconnected from the national grid.

Customers who received their March 2023 invoices between the 1st and 10th of April will be disconnected if payment is not received by April 24.

"Disconnection is only performed as a last resort to prevent the consumer from incurring additional debt and to allow the company to collect more revenue to keep the electricity supply chain operational.

"The disconnection may not be due to the current bill, but rather to previous arrears, as shown in the three columns at the bottom of the bill: CURRENT BILL, PREVIOUS BALANCE, and AMOUNT DUE. To avoid debt, customers are exhorted to pay the amount listed in the AMOUNT PAYABLE column of their bill, he added.

Mr. Buabin urged non-bill-receiving consumers to pay on account, as required by PURC Regulation LI 2413.

Mr. Ruforson Ernest Ativui, the Regional Revenue Protection Manager for Volta, added his voice to the call for customers to cease illegal connections and grant ECG personnel access to their meters.

Customers were reminded that preventing employees from accessing the meters hinders operations.

The ECG has been on a mission to collect unpaid bills from regional consumers.

Customers who have failed to pay their debts, including some government institutions, have been disconnected. Customers were exhorted to pay their bills in order to avoid disconnection.
