DMB notifies the majority caucus that he will compete in the NPP presidential primaries.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, affectionately known as DMB, has informed the Majority Caucus in Parliament of his intention to run in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries when nominations open later this month.

According to information gathered, he proclaimed his intention at a heavily attended majority caucus meeting on the evening of Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

Thecustodianghonline.com learned that Vice President Bawumia's message was "unity and perseverance. Collectively, we can triumph. It is feasible."

Over one hundred Members of Parliament (MPs) have already declared their support for Vice President Bawumia, who is significantly favored to win the NPP presidential primaries for the general election in 2024.

The legislators believe that the second gentleman of the land can help the ruling party accomplish its goal of "breaking the 8."

NPP has scheduled its presidential primaries for November 4, 2023, in order to select a candidate for the general election in 2024.

In the event that more than five candidates file to run in the primaries, the party will convene a Special Congress on August 26 to reduce the number of candidates to five for the main primaries.

About 10 people have so far declared their intention to contest the NPP presidential primaries including former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, former Minister for Energy Boakye Agyarko, former Minster for Railway Development Joe Ghartey, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, former MP for Mampong Francis Addai Nimoh.

The nomination period for the 2023 presidential primaries will run from May 26 to June 24.

Additionally, the party has announced that congressional primaries will be conducted in February 2024.

The nomination period will be between December 20, 2023 and January 4, 2024.

This indicates that the NPP will select its Presidential Candidate prior to its parliamentary candidates.
