Five Ghanaian artists that continued to have major successes after going solo

In the Ghanaian music scene, leaving a group but still remaining relevant is like a curse.

Some of the band members who were on the journey's bridge later come to the conclusion that splitting up was a bad move when their trips suffer severe setbacks.

Some of them swallow their egos and work assiduously to restore their bands to their former glory, but this is just as challenging as winning over the hearts of the audience.

However, some Ghanaian artists who left their respective bands have still been able to have a significant impact. Even after leaving the music industry, they have continued to be significant.

Five of these musicians are profiled in this article by Ghanaweekend.

Cap'n Planet [4X4]

Captain Planet was the founder of the renowned but now-defunct Ghanaian band 4X4. After 'Siklitele' was released in 2003, the group consisting of Captain Planet, Coded, and Fresh Prince gained widespread recognition.

With his songs like "Obi Agyi Obi Girl" and "Abordie," Captain Planet was able to uphold the group's status as monster hit creators despite going solo.

Since going solo, Afriyie has produced popular songs like "Love of my life" and "Here to Stay" in order to uphold the group's status.

They began recording professionally in 2005 and had their first big hit with "Oyeadieyie."

5.Efya [Jane and Irene]

After competing in the inaugural season of the now-defunct reality series "Stars of the Future" in 2006, Irene & Jane were created. The silky-voiced duet split up almost 15 years ago.

Irene went private and, in her own words, suffered tremendous difficulties, including addiction and depression, while Efya went on to win top accolades and was repeatedly named the greatest vocalist of the year.

At the Ghana Music Awards, Efya won Best Female Vocal Performance four times in a row. Efya included on the 3Music Network's list of the Top 30 Most Influential Women in Music in March 2021.
