Ghana's favorite captain Stephen Appiah reveals, "I used my own money to pay for plane tickets after winning bonuses from Black Stars Players."

The fact that some of us are so modest is one thing that hurts. But when you are aware of your worth, you avoid certain activities and social situations. All of us want to lend a hand since we have done so in the past, even if it wasn't enough.

Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has provided more information regarding how he used to buy colleagues' plane tickets when the national team wasn't enticing to players.

The former Juventus CF star admitted that after being named captain, he even used his personal funds to cover his international teammates' victory bonuses.

This is what Appiah remarked in response to his criticism of the current state of football administration in the nation.

The former Fenerbache player expressed his hope that things would soon get better because he feels that his sacrifices haven't been recognized sufficiently.

"One terrible fact is that some of us are quite modest. But when you are aware of your worth, you avoid certain activities and social situations. Even if it wasn't enough, we've all offered assistance in the past, Appiah told Sompa TV.

"There was a time when no one (players) wanted to play for the Black Stars. There was a period when I had to cover the cost of players' flights to Ghana and when I had to pay winning bonuses.

"Now that I see how things have been handled, I wonder why I wasted my money. But we're hoping for a better day.

The 42-year-old added that he hopes to see an ex-football player serving as the president of the Ghana Football Association and overseeing the management of the game in the nation one day.
