God bless you, not labor compensation - Pbaapa Christy

Obaapa Christy

Obaapa Christy, a seasoned gospel musician, has stated that charging fees to perform at events is permissible given that artistic excellence and superior stagecraft come at a price.

In a recent interview on UTV's United Showbiz, the W'asue Me hitmaker argued that it was inappropriate for naysayers to believe that gospel performers shouldn't charge for performances, citing the costume, makeup, and other incidentals that go into the booking fees she proposes.

The veteran musician stated that she will not receive "thank you" or "God bless you" as payment for her work, as she is a firm believer that all work, including hers, should be compensated.

"When I launched my singing career and began giving interviews, I was asked if I charged for performances, and I always responded affirmatively. When asked why I charge, I explain that I must eat and that donning a nice outfit and applying makeup costs money. Even the Bible states that "he who works for the lord eats from their gains," so I charge for all of these costs.

She continued, "While we work to glorify God, God also commands us to take delight in our labor. Every worker should profit from their efforts. Consequently, if a pastor asks me to perform at a program, should I receive God's blessing in lieu of payment because I am a Christian? I disagree with that statement.

She urged her peers in the industry to remain on the right path and disregard what others have to say about their behavior.

She said, "Let's be sincere and do what pleases us, but remember that sin is only committed if our actions in any way provoke God."
