He Called Me - Ex-NPP Executive Accuses Gabby Over Galamsey; Frimpong-Boateng Is Defended by Galamsey

Former New Patriotic Party Vice Chairman for the Central Region, Horace Ekow Ewusi, has accused Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko of actively assisting illegal small-scale mining companies to engage in galamsey in various regions of the country.

Ewusi, who was once a government contractor tasked with transporting excavators and other seized galamsey equipment to a secure location, stated that he personally received calls from Gabby urging him to allow his clients involved in galamsey to continue operations under the pretense that they were registered.

The 28th of April's Kumasi-based Sompa FM morning program broadcast an audio clip of his conversation with journalist Duncan regarding galamsey-related issues.

He recounted how, in the past, he and Charles Bissue, the environment minister and secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), had resisted pressure from Gabby and others to enable the company Gabby represented to continue galamsey mining.

"We live in a disgraceful nation, and its citizens are responsible for all this nonsense." It touches Gabby Otchere-Darko deeply. These are the same individuals who caused the death of Major Mahama.

"It took me and Charles Bissue, along with Frimpong-Boateng's courage, to stop that operation weeks later; Charles Bissue is falsely accused of accepting a bribe of 10,000 cedis," he stated.

According to him, the constraints originated with the presidency, followed by a call from Gabby's office and then Gabby himself.

"Someone close to the Vice President's office requested that I allow these individuals to go to work, and I refused. I then received a call from Gabby's office, where a lawyer claimed to represent them, and I refused on multiple occasions.

"Then I received a call from Gabby himself, and I told him I couldn't do it. I cannot permit their employment. But what occurred? Instead of protecting me, Professor capitulated. "I can say with certainty that Prof did not authorize their visit, but he is aware of their presence," he emphasized.

Gabby was among the close associates of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who were implicated in galamsey activities in Frimpong-Boateng's 36-page report.

The former minister asserted that Gabby had intervened after the IMCIM prevented Heritage Imperial from engaging in galamsey. Gabby confirmed that he called the minister on behalf of the company because they were duly registered clients.

Gabby is currently in court suing Frimpong-Boateng for defamation and seeking 10 million cedis in damages.
