Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a candidate for president from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised one of his rivals for the position, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on how he has managed Ghana's economy.In an interview that aired on Citi TV on July 19, 2023, Dr. Apraku addressed statements that people are needlessly targeting him by referring to the performance of Ghana's economy under the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.According to him, the record of the vice president needs to be taken into consideration in order to decide whether or not he is capable of leading the country."There is absolutely no issue with that (calling out Dr. Bawumia).

The primaries itself would take place in November 2023 to determine who would represent the party in the 2024 election.On the list of ten potential candidates are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President; Alan Kyerematen, a former Minister of Trade; Kwadwo Poku, an energy specialist; Joe Ghartey, Attorney General and Minister of Justice; and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a former Minister of Food and Agriculture.
