In Volta and Oti, ECG's revenue mobilization generates a twofold collection.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) launched a month-long, aggressive revenue mobilization effort that has quadrupled collection to GH40 million in the Volta and Oti regions.

The goal for the week was GH6.5 million, but February and January brought in GH19.3 million and GH16.9 million, respectively.

Between March 20 and April 20, 2023, the ECG started a vigorous nationwide revenue mobilization campaign to recover over GH5.7 billion, but it only realized GH219 million of the debt, or more than half of the total.

In order for debtors to pay their debt or be removed from the national grid, ECG officials visited some of the public institutions, hotels, tertiary institutions, and private companies, among others, who up until this point owed the Company for power consumption.

The exercise was conducted concurrently in all 11 operating Volta and Oti ECG districts: Denu, Sogakope, Akatsi, Keta, Ho, Kpeve, Kpando, Hohoe, Jasikan, Nkwanta, and Dambai.

All clients were thanked by Mr. Michael Buabin, acting general manager for the Volta Region, for their support in making the exercise successful.

"We are not happy to disconnect our customers because power consumption will generate the required revenue with the phenomenon of disconnecting being the last option, when all other attempts at persuasion fail."

The Bank of Ghana, Hohoe, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana Revenue Authority, Sogakope Beach Resort, Brazil Agro, Sogakope Red Bull Academy, Ho Nursing Training College, and the Ho Technical University are just a few notable state institutions that have settled their debt. These institutions were all caught in the debt web.

Even yet, "The Ho Airport and KFC paid more than what they owed ECG."

Volta Forest Products and Matador Multimedia, two businesses in the Hohoe enclave, have been disconnected, according to Mr. Buabin, since they owe ECG more than GH950,000 and GH65,000, respectively.

He said organizations including the National Communication Authority, GCB, the Stevens Hotel and Skyplus Hotel in Ho, and the Regency Salt Company in the Denu District should be commended for promptly paying their collecting bills.

We would like to congratulate all of these customers for their altruistic and patriotic bill payment behavior and encourage others to follow in their footsteps.

Several Municipal and District Assemblies, the Ghana Water Company Limited, and the Ho Teaching Hospital, according to him, have not yet paid off all of their outstanding debts.

A total of GH66,000 was recovered from several companies that were involved in unlawful connections, according to the interim general manager, who turned the offenders over to the Police for further action.

He said, "Anyone who knows or who believes their meters have been tampered with or there's a bypass should note that the utility court is being set up and they are going to be charged with stealing." He hinted that the organization's next exercise would be to crack down on the activities of illegal and power theft.

In order to help ECG serve clients more effectively, Mr. Buabin pleaded with them to stop engaging in unlawful activity and pay their bills on time.

Lessons had been learned, he added, and the revenue mobilization effort would continue. The last week of the month would be set aside for debt collection, and high debtors would be contacted by phone to urge them to pay in order to prevent debt accumulation.

"Through the provision of a reliable power supply and high-quality services, ECG is prepared to make the Volta Region the hub of exceptional customer care, thus there is a need to finish ongoing projects and start new ones.

"As part of our efforts to increase power supply, we constructed a 20MVA transformer at the Kpando Bulk Supply Point last year. To increase the region's access to power, we will also start building a substation at Sokode," he continued.

ECG has built a customer service center at Dambai and a revenue collection point at Kpando, both of which will be put into service soon. It also plans to finish customer service centers at Anloga, GoloKwati, New Ayoma, and Kpetoe.

Mr. Buabin was gushing with praise for the media's unwavering assistance throughout the exercise through ongoing publicity and live coverage, which allowed the Company to reach its clients and meet its goal.
