In order to effectively look into illegal mining, I don't trust the CID, says Arthur Kennedy

Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a political activist, is opposed to the Criminal Investigation Department's (CID) handling of inquiries into allegations of unlawful mining.

He claims that the group lacks integrity and is too subservient to the government to offer thorough and reliable findings on the threat.

"I don't believe the CID will look into this situation fairly.

On April 24, he said on the JoyNews AM Show, "I think they are compromised and too beholden to the government.

According to the US-based physician, a Parliamentary hearing is necessary to discuss how to make small-scale mining legal while guaranteeing that it is both advantageous to the nation and the environment.

Dr. Kennedy bemoaned the growing problem of state capture, in which wealthy political figures who help elect candidates attempt to profit from the state.

He claimed that "we are witnessing the disintegration of this fourth republic and the nation."

He has consequently urged all Ghanaians to take action rather than watch as events spiral out of control.

His remarks came after a report by the former Environment Minister, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, that implicated certain senior government figures in illicit mining.

Since then, he has come under fire as some of those accused have refuted the claims, many of them claiming that the facts had been misrepresented.
