Into the Appiah-Oduro Sarfo Saga Waded John Mensah

Stephen Appiah-Nana Oduro Sarfo, John Mensah

John Mensah, a former captain of Ghana, has commented on the current Stephen Appiah-Nana Oduro Sarfo controversy.

The former Olympic Lyon defender has joined the several PFAG members who feel wronged in criticizing the Executive Council member for what the Association claims was a careless remark.

While some PFAG members are calling for an unconditional apology for his remarks, others have suggested that he should back down.

Mensah, widely known as the Rock, said, "I think Oduro Sarfo was not fair to Stephen at all taking into consideration Appiah's contribution to football not only in Ghana but beyond."

"Oduro Sarfo should retract his statement," he continued, "because while Stephen is the target today, any of my coworkers or I could be." I believe the remark was extremely disrespectful to our former captain and below the belt.

In a radio interview last week, the Executive Council member stated that Appiah needed to complete his education in order to be considered for administrative positions in Ghanaian football.

"The FA president for Cameroon is Samuel Eto'o. He had to attend classes in order to advance his academic standing.

"He joined organizations connected to their FA before deciding to compete. Oduro Sarfo said on Onua FM that Stephen Appiah needs to have stronger academic credentials and credentials if he wants to play a significant role or lead the GFA.

And he said, "...look at the number of players he has produced, including Sammy Osei Kuffuor, Ibrahim Tanko, and the rest. He is a seasoned football administrator, like Alhaji Grusah." So where is his justification that Stephen ought to complete his education before assuming a managerial position inside the football industry?

After being misunderstood, the FA Executive Council member clarified that he actually meant that Appiah should obtain the necessary qualifications for football administration.
