Why Akufo-Addo can't abolish 'galamsey'
Kwame Jantuah, an attorney, has stated that President Nana Akufo-Addo cannot prohibit small-scale mining and 'galamsey' because he cannot create jobs in rural areas.

If the government is able to create employment in mining communities, youth will not engage in illegal mining to survive, according to him.

"President Akufo-Addo cannot prohibit small-scale mining and galamsey because he cannot create jobs in rural areas."

If it can generate employment, he will ban it.

Attorney Jantuah concluded that President Akufo-Addo has grossly failed to manage Ghana's natural resources in accordance with his campaign promises.

Due to mining activities, lives have been lost, trees have been felled, and land has been degraded.

Despite the inherent dangers, residents of mining communities, particularly men, rely heavily on mining for their livelihood.
