Kwame Ato Asare, alias Kwame Ani, the principal suspect, and three others have been arrested in connection with the assault on the Axim District Police patrol team on March 9, 2023.

This increases the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the crime to eight.

Kwame Ato Asare and three other suspects, Williams Kwofie, Richard Kwesi, and Emmanuel Kojo Bronie, who had gone into concealment after the attack on the patrol team and were on the Police's radar, were apprehended on April 21, 2023, in a village near Enchi in the Western North Region.

In several media interviews, Kwame Ato Asare, while in concealment, made extortion allegations against the Axim District Police Commander, the Crime Officer, and other police officers in the district; the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is currently investigating these allegations.

Kwame Ato Asare's arrest is anticipated to aid the investigation into the aforementioned allegations, and any Police officer found to be responsible will be sanctioned in accordance with the country's laws.
