Kwesi Pratt Jnr. Against Ghana Card as Sole ID for 2024 Elections

Kwesi Pratt Jnr., an experienced journalist, has voiced his opposition to the proposed Constitutional Instrument (C.I) by the Electoral Commission, which seeks to use the Ghana Card as the sole identification document for the 2024 elections. The EC had previously sought to make the Ghana Card the only document for voter registration last year, which was met with opposition by the Minority Group who argued that it would disenfranchise voters. The EC defended its decision, stating that the Ghana Card is the most authentic means of identifying Ghanaians. However, the Minority in Parliament reiterated its strong opposition to the use of the Ghana Card for voter registration in February, citing accessibility issues for many Ghanaians.

On the Peace FM 'Kokrokoo' programme, Pratt criticized the EC's proposal, stating that it makes no sense since the Commission had requested and received 80 million dollars to redo the voter register, which they claimed was credible. He questioned why the EC would need a new C.I when there was already a faultless register, stating that the proposal was of no beneficial use. He also suggested that there might be ulterior motives behind the EC's proposal.
