Mahama Prays For Ghana To Maintain Its Moral Compass

According to a statement made by former President John Dramani Mahama, ethics have a direct impact on the prosperity of a nation.

According to what he said, the downfall of every civilization that has ever been occurred after that culture lost its moral and ethical compass.

As a result, Mr. Mahama hoped that Ghana would continue to keep its moral compass in order to safeguard the nation's progress as well as the prosperity and dignity of its people. On Wednesday, July 26, he was delivering a speech at the 2023 Development Conference that was organised by the Church of Pentecost.

He went on to raise concerns about the failure of authorities to investigate the suspected criminals' sources of income in order to determine whether or not they had obtained their wealth through illegal ways.

The leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) posed the question of why such people are frequently recognised without anyone investigating the source of the revenue they receive.

He asked, "Why do we celebrate people who today are wealthy with dubious sources of income and yet society is not concerned about what the source of income is?" He remarked, "Why do we celebrate people who today are wealthy with dubious sources

Mahama has asked for a review of the judgement made by the Supreme Court, and he has also requested a stay of the proceedings.

"Ethics have a direct impact on national development, and as a student of history, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that throughout history, all civilizations that have fallen have done so after they lost their moral and ethical compass,"

He continued by saying, "It is our prayer that Ghana continues to maintain its moral compass in order that we may continue to ensure national development, prosperity, and dignity for our people."

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who was also present at the ceremony, spoke about the power that the people hold in the governing of any country and reminded everyone in attendance of this fact.

Mr. Kufuor emphasised that the constitution vests that sovereignty in the people, and Ghanaians in particular, which is the reason why openness and accountability are essential components of governance.

The topic of "Moral Vision and National Development" was the focus of the conference that was held.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was at the head of the pack of dignitaries who were present at the event. Other significant stakeholders in the nation's growth were also in attendance.

Mr. Kufuor, who served as President of the Republic of Ghana from January 7, 2001 until January 6, 2009, emphasised the need of governors of the country being accountable to the governed as part of the scheme of governance. Mr. Kufuor's term as President of the Republic of Ghana lasted from January 7, 2001 to January 6, 2009.

He emphasised that "in fact, the national constitution of Ghana reposes sovereignty in the people as a whole," which means that the people have the power to make decisions.

"This is the reason why the conditions of accountability and transparency are requisite to governance so that the governors will always be mindful that they hold power in trust of the people, the real owners of power."
