Matron and four other people were detained after allegations of food theft from Atebubu SHS

The police in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality in the Bono East Region have detained five people, including a matron and a landlord, for allegedly taking food intended for students at the Senior High School (SHS).

Edward Owusu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality, acknowledged that the arrest was the result of the suspects' participation in undermining the government's free SHS policy.

The five are helping the police identify the thieves who took from Atebubu SHS and Konkrompe SHS more than 24 bags of beans, 40 bags of 50kg of rice, oil, and tin tomatoes.

The MCE claims that he was tipped off that food from the school had been stolen and was being kept in a nearby house.

The police and BNI were notified by the MCE, who in turn alerted them. When they arrived at the house quickly, they discovered the things, which the suspects admitted had been taken from the school.

In an interview with Wiafe Akenten of Adom News, the MCE spoke about the things and claimed they were informed that it was not the first time stolen property had been kept there.

The four others and the matron, who are all out on bond, are anticipated to be arraigned on Tuesday.
