Meet a Woman Who Started Weaving Since 1989

Beatrice Daan is a Weaver Who Started Weaving Since 1989, Thirty Four Years Ago.

According to Madam Beatrice who spoke to Upper West Media Team at the Nubuke Foundation’s 3rd Woori Festival Edition, she indicated that Marriage took her to Nandom where she has been since 1989, She Started Weaving when she got married and Moved to Nandom in the 80’s from Dafiama her Hometown.

She Revealed that Passion and The income was the reason why she has held on to weaving for Over 30 Years.

“I started weaving in 1989 and have designed several fabrics, the business has been lucrative and i have been getting enough money to support the family”- She Said

She also Bemoaned the Rate at Which Prices of Weaving threads were shooting up adding that one Thread was Ghc7 but has shot up to Ghc15 Due to the Rate of the Dollar, she also advocated for people to switch to Yuan in Order to be able to buy them from China at a lower rate instead of using Dollars.

She has trained over 25 Girls in Weaving.

Nubuke Foundation’s Woori Festival is a Program that is unearthing talents in the line of Clay Moulding and Weaving.

The festival which celebrates the wealth and worth of the weaving traditions in the Upper West Region of Ghana, will be the climax of workshops, collaborations and activations that have taken place over the last year in communities and schools in Nadowli, Wa and Nandom.
