Military invade Ashaiman over murder of a soldier

Sheriff Imoro was allegedly killed by a gang after he visited his girlfriend in the Ashaiman municipality over the weekend

Military

Some military men on Monday morning invaded Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra, over the alleged murder of their colleague over the weekend.

Sheriff Imoro was allegedly killed by a gang after he visited his girlfriend in the vicinity.

“This morning, between 3:30am to 4am, I had series of calls from residents that there were armed military men in the community brutalising civilians, preventing them from coming out of their homes and houses to go about their daily duties,” the MP for Ashaiman Ernest Norgbey said on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (7 March).

“I made a series of calls to the police and others, but to no avail [and] fortunately I was able to get the deputy Minister of Defence and we are all making efforts to calm the situation so that residents can go about their duties,” he told the host Kwaku Nhyira-Addo.

“We don’t know exactly the cause of this action, but we are suspecting it’s a reprisal attack on the community because of the incident that occurred,” Norgbey added.

“About 40 to 50 people have been arrested by the military so far,” Tetteh said. “We don’t know their whereabouts.”
