NDC Mfantseman parliamentary candidate discloses NPP's solicitation to run for them.

The country's two most influential political parties

Emmanuel Coffie, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Mfantseman parliamentary constituency, has expressed confidence in his ability to win if he emerges victorious in the party's primary.

Mr. Coffie, a grassroots member from the constituency's most prevalent electoral area, Mankessim, stated on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem that he believes he can assist the NDC in reclaiming the seat after eight years.

With his experience as a branch chairman, he asserts that he understands the needs of the people and is confident in his capacity to satisfy them.

He disclosed that the NPP approached him in 2017 to run on their platform, unaware that he was affiliated with the NDC.

However, he declined the offer and instead chose to compete for the NDC. As a native of Mankessim, he believes he is the most qualified candidate to represent the party and secure the seat.

"During 2016 and 2018, I served as Branch Chairman at Mankessim.

"Over the previous eight years, the NPP has held the seat. In 2017, the NPP realized that the total number of registered voters has increased to 91,000, while the Mankessim enclave has approximately 51,000 registered voters. They realized that if a native of Mankessim represented their party, they would win the election.

"NPP, led by Asamoah Boateng, reached out to me in 2017 to run in the party's name without knowing my NDC membership," he revealed.

He believes he is qualified to lead the opposition party, despite being a first-time candidate.

In the forthcoming primaries on May 13, 2023, 2,228 NDC delegates will select candidates for the 2024 general election from a pool of parliamentary hopefuls.
