NPP Endorses Josephine Davies Candidate Bid

The leadership and partisans of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), which is now a component party of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), have endorsed madam Josephine W. A. Davies as a candidate for Montserrado District 10 Representative in the general elections scheduled for 10 October 2023.

Sunday, April 23, 2023, at the NPP national headquarters in Congo Town, thousands of supporters from across the district, including CDC officials, gathered for an elaborate ceremony to endorse the party.

Passionate about reclaiming the Montserrado County District from its incumbent Representative, Yekeh Kolubah, Madam Josephine Davies recently resigned as Inspector General of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) to enable her to run for the District seat in accordance with President Weah's recently issued Executive Order.

During her tenure at the Ministry, Madam Davies was responsible for investigating business fraud and abuse and protecting the public by assuring the safety of Liberia's food supply and other major products.

In her endorsement statement on behalf of the party, NPP standard-bearer Jewel Howard-Taylor praised Madam Davies for her efforts to restructure the CDC and for braving the tempest to ensure that her district is redeemed through adequate legislative representation.

"The road ahead is long, rocky, and difficult, but we are in this together. And that is what is important. Madam Howard-Taylor, who is also the country's Vice President, stated, "Nothing good comes easily, and the path to parliament is particularly difficult."

Vice President Taylor, who also boasted that the NPP supports the incorporation of 30% women in politics, stated, "We want to ensure that we have women candidates, and the NPP leadership has instructed us to work closely with you in this district to ensure your success."

She then thanked the party members, including the women's group, youth, and elders, for their support and urged the candidate to maintain a positive working relationship with them as well as the district's women and youth organizations.

Madam Howard-Taylor also challenged aspirant Davies to prioritize the affairs of young people and women upon ascending to power, noting that, for too long, young people and women have been the driving force behind the success of politicians, but they are frequently neglected once the election is over.

"Each time, these individuals perform the dirty labor, and when we ascend, we do not look back at them. We allow them to remain in their slumbers and predicaments. She asked rhetorically, "How can we change society if our young people and women are uneducated?"

The leader of the NPP also stated that the Coalition for Democratic Change was founded in good faith and would do everything possible to ensure President George Weah's reelection on October 10.

Madam Josephine Davies thanked the NPP and CDC for the recognition and vowed to do everything in her power to promote the coalition on both the district and national levels, as well as to vigorously campaign for President Weah's reelection.

Davies, who also acknowledged Vice President Taylor as her political godmother, emphasized that her decision to run in the upcoming elections is to ensure that the people of District 10 are adequately represented in the House of Representatives.

She stated that District residents have been deprived of their fair portion of the nation's wealth for too long due to the incumbent's "incompetence and inability" to lobby with his colleagues to ensure that development and other basic services are carried out in the District.

Madam Davies argued, "The time has arrived for genuine change and leadership. The error we made in 2017 by electing a man who knows nothing about the office he holds will be rectified in October when we vote him out of office.

"We can no longer stand by and watch as our cherished district is underrepresented and ridiculed due to our incompetence and inability to perform his duties. We elected him to represent us and not offend us, and we endured him. "Enough is sufficient," she added.
