NPP's Steering C'tee meets following petition by some aspirants; others threaten withdrawal

After the 24th of June, no one else was allowed to submit their application.
Today, Thursday, July 20, the Steering Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is holding a meeting to discuss the National Congress that will be held on Saturday, August 26. The meeting will focus on the Special Electoral College.

According to what 3news.com has learnt, this comes as a result of a petition that was submitted by a few of the candidates for flagbearer.

According to reliable sources, the hopefuls are working on having the Special Electoral College organise a centralised National Congress.

The hopefuls who submitted the petition assert that decentralising the process will result in a waste of resources.

As a consequence of this, they contend that a centralised congress will provide them with the opportunity to speak to the delegates before the Congress.

According to the sources, this information is coming from all camps with the exception of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's, and several candidates have already threatened to drop out of the race if their demands are not granted. The Vice President is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to information gathered by 3news.com, they would also collect their filing fee after the withdrawal.

At the meeting on Thursday of the Steering Committee, a decision will be made regarding the next step.

After all ten candidates for flagbearer were found to be qualified by the Vetting Committee, the number of candidates is expected to be narrowed down to five at that National Congress, which would be conducted by the Special Electoral College.
