No matter how good you are NDC and NPP will black list you for moving on aertain line - Tommy Annan Forson

Veteran broadcaster and founder of Rabodef Radio Academy has admonished that radio presenters who decide to be principled and professional in the conduct of their work are bound to be blacklisted by political parties and some other authorities.

The ‘Godfather of radio’ in Ghana has also advised broadcasters to be distinguished from others because it is better to be the first-rate version of themselves than be second-rate version of somebody else.

Mr. Annan Forson emphasised that radio presenters who don’t do self-assessment and postmortem of their programs you do on air you will eventually have a problem. People just go about, picking their CD’s or pen drives and just slot them in to play without having a playlist.

“We also have owners of some media stations pushing them to do things they don’t want to do but my policy is that if you want control me on the space which you have given me and tell me what do then please you might take your radio station and I will take a walk because I believe in professionalism” Mr. Annan Forson stated.

He echoed the saying that a good name is better than riches but told Johnnie Hughes, host of 3FM Sunrise Morning Show that if a journalist goes a certain line, no matter how good it is, she or he would be blacklisted.

“No matter what you do, if you toe a certain line whether it is political, NDC or NPP, no matter what you do or what you say at a point in time they will blacklist you. You won’t be able to walk freely” Mr. Annan Forson mentioned.

In his response to what ought to be done in order to improve upon radio broadcasting in Ghana, Veteran broadcaster Tommy Annan Forson has drawn attention to poor remuneration for radio presenters in Ghana.

“In as much as popularity doesn’t pay the bills, a lot of radio presenters are underpaid but then again it also requires self-assessment. I have always said that if this is the job that you want to do and not have to do”

He outlined; interest, passion, commitment and dedication as the values that one requires to have a successful career in radio broadcasting hence broadcasters shouldn’t make money their ultimate or sole goal.
