Prepare for the worse - Inusah Fuseini to Quayson over govt's 'persecution

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has given the advice to current Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, to prepare himself for the worst during the hearing for his trial.

He claimed that although if Mr. Quayson is a victim of the 'persecution' of the government, it is possible that the trial would not conclude in Mr. Quayson's favour.

"I've already given my advice on air that if government persecutes you like Akufo-Addo is doing to Gyakye Quayson, Gyakye Quayson must prepare for the worse," he said on Kumasi-based Hello FM. "I've already given my advice on air that if government persecutes you like Akufo-Addo is doing to Gyakye Quayson," he continued.

Mr. Inusah also stated that the legislator is presumed innocent until guilt is established.

Mr. Quayson is accused of committing a variety of crimes, including perjury and forgery, and is currently on trial for these allegations.

In spite of the many legal processes that have been filed at the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, an Accra High Court has decided that there is nothing that prevents it from progressing with the case.

The court had previously indicated that it will hold its hearing on a day-to-day basis, which has forced Mr. Quayson to file legal processes with the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, asserting that the Attorney General has failed to provide him with the entire complement of material that will be used against him.

Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame disagreed with this perspective and argued that the court should proceed because neither the Court of Appeal nor the Supreme Court has made an order regarding the matter.

The court, which is being presided over by Justice Mary Yanzuh, has decided that it will move through with the case even if there has not been an order from another court to suspend the proceedings.
