Reject IMF Funding if LGBTQ+ is a Prerequisite - Methodist Bishop

The Very Reverend Asamoah-Agyei addresses the Synod.

The Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese of the Methodist Church, Rt. Rev. Baffour Asamoah-Agyei, has called for the rejection of yet-to-be-released IMF funds if conditions such as LGBTQ+ acceptance are affixed.

The Bishop, speaking at the 26th Annual Synod of the Diocese at the Calvary Methodist Church at Anyinam in Obuasi, stated that Ghanaians disapprove of homosexuality and lesbianism and that we should vigorously resist the imposition of that foreign culture. He also urged parliament to pass the anti-LGBTQ+ bill without further delay.

The Diocesan Bishop emphasized that "even though we are poor, we are proud of our traditions and culture, and if there are conditions attached to the IMF money, such as the acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals, we should reject it as a country."

He asked, "Why are we being bombarded with LGBTQ+ issues when we are struggling to make ends meet, when families are struggling to put food on the table, and when our roads, schools, and hospitals are all facing challenges?"

Rev. Asamoah-Agyei stated that while we adore homosexuals and lesbians, we abhor and detest the practice of homosexuality and lesbianism, because God, in His infinite wisdom, created Adam and Eve and not Adam and Stephen.

He expressed optimism that President Nana Akufo-Addo will honor his promise that same-sex marriage will not be legalized during his administration.

Regarding education, the Bishop stated, "As a church, we urge the government to streamline and slow down the pace of education reforms." This will facilitate public comprehension and participation in the system.

Currently, it appears that parents, children, instructors, and stakeholders are all confused by the rapid changes in curriculum at various educational levels.

Concerning agriculture, the Methodist prelate observed that in the past two decades, agriculture as a subject at the basic level is either nonexistent or merged with another subject, and he posed the question, "Can't we make agriculture a full course of study at the basic level in order to increase our children's interest in the subject?"
