Rev. Prof. Mante Ends Tenure As PCG Moderator In Nov

The Very Reverend and Reverend Professor J.O. Y. Mante, PCG Moderator
During the forthcoming General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), it is anticipated that an election to choose a new Moderator of the General Assembly will take place.

The present Moderator, Rt. Rev. Prof. J.O. Y Mante, will step down from his position in November of 2023 when his term comes to a conclusion.

The announcement that the Church's 23rd General Assembly will be convened at the Ramseyer Congregation in Abetifi-Kwahu in the Eastern Region from the 16th to the 20th of August 2023 was made by him in a pastoral letter that was distributed to the various congregations. The event will be centred around the concept of "Jesus Christ, the Alpha and the Omega (Revelation 21:6)," as its central topic.

In the letter, it was revealed that about 300 Commissioners and Corresponding Members would be attending the General Assembly. These individuals would be coming from each of the 21 Presbyteries that make up the Church. In addition to that, it was stated that the General Assembly will play host to a number of dignitaries from both the United States and other countries.

At the grand durbar that is scheduled to take place on Saturday, awards will be awarded to deserving members of the PCG for the remarkable contributions they have provided towards the forward march of the Church. It is anticipated that Vice President Mahamdu Bawumia would serve as the Guest of Honour at the event.

"Beloved in our Lord Jesus Christ, the General Assembly that will be held this year is a special one because, in this Assembly, a new Moderator will be elected to take over from me, as I put my five years' worth of Moderatorial tenure to a close this year at midnight on the 30th of November 2023. This year marks the beginning of the end of my time serving in this capacity. A piece of the letter read, "As we get ready to elect a new Moderator, I encourage everyone to learn from the election of Mathias in the early church in Acts 1:13-26," which was one of the passages that was included in the letter.

Rt. Rev. Prof. J.O. Y. Mante commended God for his never-ending compassion towards all of creation, including people, and he made the point that "irrespective of all the challenging times that this world finds itself in – diseases, economic turmoil, political unrest, etc. – God has not forsaken His word and His Church."

The letter requested that all members of the PCG devote some of their time to praying and fasting so that God could select a new Moderator for both Himself and His Church.

The Moderator further pleaded with all members of the PCG to maintain their silence at this time in order to provide the Church with the opportunity to listen to and understand God's plan for His Church about the crucial issue of electing a new leader.

In particular, he cautioned people "who sometimes pretend that they have the power to choose leaders for God's Church, either through verbal force or through 'prophetic hijacking'" to refrain from engaging in the practise.
