Senior officer on leaked tape reveals Godfred Dame and Dampare doesn't see eye to eye

In a recent scandal that has attracted the public's attention in Ghana, senior police officers and an official from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the country's dominant political party, have been implicated in a scheme to remove the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) from office. The incident was brought to the public's attention by the New Patriotic Party. The revelation of the secret audio of their chat has prompted tremendous debate across the nation.

The senior police officers reportedly sought the cooperation of a prominent NPP member in order to carry out their plan, as indicated by the audio that was accidentally leaked. They said that the Inspector General, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, was hostile towards the NPP and a potential obstacle to the victory of the party in the future general elections in 2024.

In one of the tapes, a senior official can be heard enumerating the alleged "sins" committed by the IGP, which includes having disagreements with the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice.

The officer asserts that he was informed by Jerry Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Coastal Development Authority, that there is friction between Dr. Dampare and Godfred Yeboah Dame, probably due to differences in leadership style. This information was provided to the officer by Jerry Ahmed.

Jerry claims that Godfred does not want to have any contact with him at all. He doesn't like him at all. The senior officer made the observation that Godfred Yeboah Dame, who is the Attorney General, has zero tolerance for Dampare.

On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the media reported on the disclosure of a secret recording that involved police officers discussing the dismissal of Dr. Dampare from his post. The recording was made secretly.

The first report had a recording that was fifty minutes long and detailed the agenda that the officers planned to discuss with a member of the NPP known as Alhaji. Nevertheless, since that time, additional strong evidence in the form of video recordings has surfaced, which has cast further light on the conspiracy.

During a separate meeting with a senior member of the NPP, one of the recordings captures a Superintendent of Police named Asare vehemently advocating for the agenda of the group.

Superintendent Asare makes a number of accusations against the present Inspector General of Police (IGP), one of which is that he is anti-NPP and claims that this is "because he [Dr. Dampare] is naturally born bad."

A Commissioner of Police identified only as Mensah is heard on the audio tape that was published by GhanaWeb. He is heard asking for political support for their effort to remove Dr. Dampare from his position.

Commissioner Mensah is concerned about Dr. Dampare's leadership style and the potential influence it could have on the New Patriotic Party's capacity to maintain power in the 2024 elections. He expresses his worries in a statement.
