Soldiers murder a police officer after discovering a colleague using Indian hemp.

Locals and security sources informed Daily Trust that the event took place on Monday about 10 am at the town's entry checkpoint.

After his squad stopped a soldier in a car transporting Indian hemp, the officer was shot dead by some soldiers in Benisheikh, Borno State.

According to a security source, the soldier beat a security checkpoint in an ash-colored Acura sport utility vehicle with the license plate FKJ 761 AR and refused to halt after a police warning.

"The crack police team fired at his tire after he refused to stop, forcing him to do so; nonetheless, Sgt. Ali was shot dead by the troops as they attempted to drive the car to Benisheikh police station.

One of the security sources disclosed that Sgt. Ali, who was reversing the vehicle, was killed by the bullet. "The soldier carrying the Indian hemp, identified as Sgt. U. Joseph, along with his other colleagues, tried to stop the Crack Squad from removing the vehicle, which led to the shooting," the source said.

According to information obtained by the Daily Trust correspondent, the suspect is currently in the military's care, and the car is kept at the Benisheikh police station.

According to a military source, the incident occurred accidentally as a soldier by the name of Ibrahim Waberi shot at the car in an effort to prevent the dead person from moving it.

He claimed, "His shot accidentally struck the dead but the accused soldier is in prison for inquiry.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sani Kamilu Shatambaya, was on leave and his deputy could not be reached for comment, therefore Daily Trust's attempt to talk with the police was unsuccessful.
