Suspects in the murder of a soldier are released and apprehended.

Tuesday, the Ashaiman Circuit Court released the five remaining suspects for the murder of Imoro Sherrif, only to have them re-arrested by the police to face new charges.

When the suspects appeared in court on Tuesday, April 25, the Attorney General's Office informed the court that all charges against the accused had been withdrawn.

The state stated that one of the reasons for the withdrawal was to consolidate all of the charges against the defendant before the Tema District Court, where the murder charge was being heard.

He stated that they were requesting guidance from the Attorney General's office in order to synchronize all the accusations so that all suspects could appear before a single court.

The court presided over by Mr. Simon Gaga upheld the prosecution's argument and discharged the defendants; however, the police re-arrested the suspects.

Mr. Alhassan Abdul Fatahu, the attorney for three of the accused, stated that the state had the authority to release and re-arrest suspects, but there was no explanation for their re-arrest.

Mr. Fatahu stated that the accused would be released upon obtaining parole for the police investigation.

During the previous trial, the court granted bail to one of the defendants, Ibrahim Abdul Rakib, who was accused of participating in the assassination of soldier Trooper Sherrif Imoro at Ashaiman Taifa.

Abdul Rakib, who was charged with receiving with intent to defraud, was granted parole on health grounds by the court after his attorney presented evidence that the defendant suffered from a stomach ulcer.

He was granted parole in the amount of GH150,000.00 with three sureties, two of whom were required to have landed property.

Trooper Imoro, age 21, was discovered deceased in a pool of blood in Taifa, Ashaiman, Greater Accra Region, on Saturday, March 4 at dawn.

The police stated in a statement that they received information that an adult male was discovered lying dead at Ashaiman Taifa and dispatched a team of officers to the site, where they confirmed the incident.

It states that the police promptly began investigating the circumstances surrounding the victim's death.

According to the statement, six individuals were apprehended following a police intelligence operation.

Two of those apprehended separately at their various hideouts are believed to have stabbed the soldier during an attempt to rob him of his mobile phone and his backpack, while the other four were arrested for purchasing the deceased soldier's stolen phone.
