The Information Ministry condemns the assault on the host of Dagbon FM and calls for the apprehension of the perpetrators.

The Ministry of Information has firmly condemned the recent assault on a journalist at Tamale's Dagbon FM.

In a press release issued on Thursday, May 4th, the Ministry voiced concern over the incident and urged the Ghana Police Service and other relevant agencies to investigate and prosecute the alleged perpetrators without delay.

"The Ministry of Information has taken note with concern of reports that a journalist at Dagbon FM in Tamale was assaulted." The Ministry condemns the act and calls on the Ghana Police Service and other relevant agencies to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators, as stated in the statement.

It deemed the assault on the broadcaster to be completely unacceptable and emphasized the significance of protecting journalists and ensuring that they can perform their duties without fear of violence or intimidation.

Abubakari Sadiq Gariba, a radio host for Dagbon FM in Tamale, was assaulted by unidentified males during a live broadcast on Wednesday.

According to reports, he had criticized one of the unnamed individuals for discussing the Abudu and Andani conflict on a political campaign platform.

The Ministry emphasized that the assault on the Dagbon FM host was a grave offense that could not be tolerated.

It demanded a "decisive and prompt response from law enforcement agencies" in order to prevent imitation attacks and preserve Ghana's reputation for upholding press freedom.

The Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, personally reached out to Mr. Gariba via telephone to convey the Ministry's support and assure him of the Ministry's readiness to assist him if necessary.
