The psychological requirements of security personnel must take precedence, suggests a clinical psychologist.

Dr. Emmanuel Assampong, a clinical psychologist, has urged the various security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, to consider the psychological needs of their personnel very seriously, as their neglect can sometimes have disastrous consequences.

According to him, because their jobs require so much of them, these officers experience a great deal of tension and fatigue, and as a result, their behavior towards people is likely to be negatively affected.

In an interview with Angel FM, Dr. Emmanuel Assampong stated, "Because their work is so delicate and they experience fatigue and stress, it has a negative effect on their behavior."

Dr. Emmanuel Assampong added that because security personnel also manage weapons in the course of their duties, even minor psychological issues could pose a threat.

"Of course, because they manage weapons and similar items, I believe it is necessary to frequently monitor their psychological needs. We should introduce them to some form of stress management and give them the opportunity to speak with others in order to clear their minds. In his interview, he told Kwame Tanko on the program "Angel In The Morning"

Aside from that, he added, people at their workplaces, residences, and with their families must receive psychological assistance.

Dr. Emmanuel Assampong made this appeal in light of recent events in Kumasi, where a police officer fatally shot his fiancée.

Inspector Ahmed appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday and confessed to murdering his girlfriend Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maadwoa, but stated that was not his intention.

On Thursday, April 20, 2023, the gunfire incident occurred in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

Inspector Ahmed Twumasi fled into hiding, but was apprehended at Sekyere, near Effiduase in the Ashanti Region, in response to a special police operation.

On May 30, 2023, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi will reappear in court.
