The question of Bola Ahmed Tinubu's health has been raised for several months, well before his campaign began. Professor Ben Ayade, governor of the state of Cross River, has debunked these rumors regarding the health of the incoming president. In an interview with Channels Television News, the professor claimed that nobody gave President Muhammadu Buhari an opportunity to live to the present day. During the President's absence from the country, he claimed, there were false allegations about his health, he said.

The Governor stated categorically that he has no doubts regarding Bola Tinubu's health, adding that Tinubu is even healthier than himself. He asserted that Nigeria should have moved beyond the stage in which people and the media spread false allegations about the health of the nation's leaders. According to him, Nigerians should have learned a lesson from President Muhammadu Buhari's case.

He stated, "Well first, my personal contact with Bola Tinubu over the years, before I joined the APC, was that I had to seek value from him, and we did add value." Regarding the President-elect's health, I believe that, at this point in time, we as a nation have moved beyond this issue. Nobody predicted that President Muhammadu Buhari would survive to the present day. In fact, the newspaper contained dreadful articles regarding his health. He is currently healthier than the majority of us. I just had a meeting with the President-elect, who is healthier than I am, I can assure you.
